What data we store and why
You can use the site without registration, and we try to know as little about you as possible. Here's everything we do record, in simple terms.
In brief
- We don't ask for your name, phone, or documents. Only an email is needed for the account.
- The password is stored as an scrypt hash — it cannot be retrieved from the database, not even by us.
- In outage reports and device checks, the IP address is stored only as a hash.
- Visits are counted by Yandex Metrica, including Webvisor.
- You can export and delete your account yourself, in your personal account, without emails or waiting.
When you simply open the site
The server, like any web server, keeps a technical log of requests: connection address, time, page opened, and browser. It is needed to analyze outages and fend off attacks, is stored for a limited time, and is not shared with anyone.
The site remembers your chosen theme (light or dark) in your browser's localStorage — it is not sent to the server. The time of your last outage report is also stored there, to prevent accidental double-clicking.
Yandex Metrica and Webvisor
To understand which pages are useful and which are not, we use Yandex Metrica. It collects anonymized visit data: where you came from, which pages you viewed, how much time you spent, device type, and approximate city.
The counter has Webvisor enabled — it records mouse movements, scrolling, and clicks so we can see what's inconvenient for users. Webvisor doesn't record password field contents, and sign-in and account pages are hidden from it entirely. Metrica sets its own cookies (names starting with _ym). How Yandex handles this data is covered in its policy. You can opt out of tracking using an analytics blocker or Yandex's extension.
Outage reports and device checks
When you click 'Not working' or run a check from your device, we record the service, time, result, and response speed. We determine the country, region, and provider by IP address — using DB-IP and iptoasn.com address databases, without requests to third-party services. We do not record the address itself in the entry — only its short hash, to avoid counting the same entry twice.
We store entries for up to 180 days, and device checks for up to 90 days. On the website, they are only visible in aggregate: '12 complaints per hour, most often with such-and-such provider'. Speed test results are also stored without the address — with the provider and region — and are only used for median values per provider.
Ratings and comments on articles
To allow one person to give one rating to an article and to prevent views from being counted twice, the browser receives a 'cfp' cookie with a random number. It contains no name or email. Next to the rating and comment, we store the IP address — solely for protection against manipulation and spam.
The comment and name, if you provided it, are visible to everyone after review. Instead of third-party CAPTCHA services, the browser solves a small computational task — this is unnoticeable and does not transmit your data to anyone.
Personal account
An email is required for the account. A confirmation code is sent to it, and then you set a password. The password is stored as an scrypt hash with a random salt; codes from emails are also stored as a hash.
Your account also stores the details you provided: your name, language, default provider and region, favourite services, and email settings. For each sign-in, we record your IP address and browser so you can see where you logged in from in your active sessions list and end unfamiliar sessions. Ended sessions (expired or signed out) are deleted after 35 days.
If you are signed in and run checks on services from your device, the result — service, time, whether it loaded and how fast, and your provider — is also saved in your account under "My checks" for 90 days.
Monitoring your websites
If you add your website to monitoring, we store its URL and name, check it every 5 minutes, and save the check history to build charts and uptime stats. This history is kept for 35 days and is deleted earlier if you remove the monitor or your account. Once a day, we check the SSL certificate expiry date. A public status page and monitor badge only appear if you turn them on yourself.
Emails
We only send emails when you request it: login code, start and end of an outage for a favorite service, your website going down, certificate expiration, and a weekly summary. Emails are sent from our own mail server, without mailing services.
Each email contains an 'Unsubscribe' link — it works with one click, without logging in. All types of emails can be turned off in your account. The sending log (to whom and when) is needed to avoid sending unnecessary emails and to troubleshoot delivery issues.
How to retrieve or delete your data
In your account, you can download all your account data in a single file or delete your account. Deletion requires your password and erases your account, favourites, monitors along with their history, device checks, sessions, and settings. In the email log, only a masked address is kept, which is permanently deleted after 35 days.
Outage reports and article ratings are not tied to your account. Entries disappear automatically after their storage period, and an article rating can be removed by clicking the same button again. Cookies can be deleted in your browser settings at any time.
If the rules change
We will update this page and the date at the top. If changes concern how we handle account data, we will notify you by email in advance.
