DNS checker

We query six DNS servers at once — Yandex, Google, Cloudflare, AdGuard, Quad9, and our server in Moscow. If any server returns something different, you will see it immediately.

For example, youtube.com — without https:// or paths

What is DNS and why compare responses

DNS is the internet's address book: it translates a website name into a server address. Your phone or router usually queries a single DNS server, provided by your internet provider, and trusts it implicitly.

If that server is glitching or giving altered responses, the site will not open or will load the wrong destination. Comparing six independent servers side by side immediately highlights any outliers.

How to tell if a response is altered

  • One server answers "domain does not exist", while the others return an address.
  • One server returns an address that no other server has — especially a private network IP (10.…, 192.168.…) or 0.0.0.0.
  • Different addresses across all servers is usually normal: large services direct you to the nearest edge server.

What to do if your DNS responds incorrectly

Switch to a public DNS server — for example, Yandex (77.88.8.8), Google (8.8.8.8), or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1). On Android, configure this under "Private DNS", on a computer in network connection settings, or across your entire home network via router settings.

Record types

  • A — IPv4 address, the primary record for most websites.
  • AAAA — IPv6 address.
  • CNAME — alias: points a domain to another domain name.
  • MX — mail servers handling domain emails.
  • TXT — text records: domain ownership verification, mail settings (SPF, DMARC).
  • NS — nameservers responsible for the domain.

FAQ

Why do servers return different addresses?

For major websites this is normal: they direct users to different servers to ensure lower latency and faster speeds. What should raise concern is an answer that drastically differs from the rest — like "domain does not exist" or a private internal IP.

What is TTL?

How many seconds a response can be cached before querying the server again. If you just updated your domain records, older responses can persist for this duration.

What do NXDOMAIN, SERVFAIL, and TIMEOUT mean?

NXDOMAIN means the domain name does not exist. SERVFAIL means the server could not get a response, often due to a domain misconfiguration. TIMEOUT means the server did not answer at all.

Which DNS should I choose for home?

Any major public DNS provider works fast. AdGuard DNS also blocks ads and trackers, while Quad9 blocks known dangerous websites.
